A percentage of the proceeds from this event will support scholarships for students interested in research on aging & elder care..
The UC Berkeley Aging Research and Technology Innovation Summit, on August 17, will highlight the educational and research mission of the University of California (UC) and its diverse and significant impact on improving the well-being of older adults. In addition to emerging research and technology updates by leading UC researchers, the program will include an overview of student and older adult education at UC Berkeley, poster sessions of student research, technology innovations, and the presentation of the Paola S. Timiras Memorial Award for Aging Research.
The goal of the innovation summit is to foster the cross-pollination of ideas and help forge new collaborations between UC researchers and leaders in industry, government, and the not-for-profit sectors, while exposing students and key stakeholders alike to a vision of healthy aging.
The Summit is hosted by several UC Berkeley aging research and education programs: Center for Research and Education in Aging (CREA), Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and the Banatao Institute (CITRIS), Center for Technology and Aging (CTA), OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Fung Fellowship for Wellness and Technology Innovations, and the Center on the Economics and Demography of Aging (CEDA).

The major conference theme ‘Agency, Citizenship and the Dynamics of Power’ brings together topics that have traditionally stood at the core of sociological thinking, but that have not been necessarily at the heart of gerontological theory and research. Many authors now point to the contemporary struggles over the representation of older age within and beyond the realm of the social sciences. Later life and older people are represented on one hand as a quiescent minority bearing multiple disadvantages within a social status of limited agency and increasing dependency, experiencing a loss of autonomy and the need to redefine one´s role in the community and society. On the other hand, older people are also seen as a source of new political, economic, and cultural ‘grey’ power, as an influential actor in contemporary societies, shaping the contours of new policies and welfare regimes. These debates reflect the diversity of the experiences of ageing selves and the pluralities of life courses as well as of the institutional, political, and social changes with which the personal and individual experience is inseparably interlinked. These struggles lead also to the reformulation of the concepts of agency, autonomy, or power themselves and to the calling for their even more reflexive application in academic accounts of the human experience in later life.
The organizers welcome individual and team contributions from the sociology of ageing, social gerontology, and related academic fields, as well as submissions for thematic session proposals. We would like to particularly invite papers and sessions that will discuss ageing-related issues within (but not limited to) the following topics:
- Changing welfare and political regimes under which old age is given shape
- Contemporary theories of power and citizenship in later life
- (In)dependency, interdependency, and personhood in older age
- Homes, communities and power in the context of migration
- Structural changes and existential challenges in later life
- Older persons as (political) actors in contemporary societies
- Research methodologies and power relationships within research (in the field)
- Roles of various stakeholders in ageing related agendas and policies as well as in influencing individual ageing conditions
The 2nd international ‘Living to 100’ Conference, hosted by the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA), UNSW Sydney, will bring together experts from all over the world to unravel the secrets of successful ageing.

We are honored to host our event among the people now known as Luiseño Indians whom have inhabited the Temecula Valley for thousands of years. They call themselves Payómkawichum (the People of the West), and are made up of seven bands: Pechanga, Pauma, Pala, Rincon, San Luis Rey, La Jolla, and Soboba. The Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians has called the Temecula Valley home for more than 10,000 years. Attendees will have the pleasure to meet the Pechanga Elders and learn about their local Silver Feathers – Elders’ Council and the significant role they continue to hold within their tribal community.
Innovation: Solutions for an Ageing Population International Conference being held from the 12 -14 September will provide a “fresh” approach to leadership, technology, education, research, architecture and design in the age care and support service sectors in healthcare.

The European Ageing Network (formerly EAHSA European Association of Housing and Services for the Ageing and (www.eahsa.eu) and E.D.E. The long term care in Europe is undergoing a lot of changes facing key coming challenges.
The Prague 2018 congress is specific in more ways. It´s the first European Ageing Network (former E.D.E. and EAHSA) congress and it´s opening the crucial topics. Is there a future of long term care in Europe and if yes, what is this future going to be.
We are touching the role of the European Commission and the member states in social policies. We are opening the hot topic concerning the workforce in long term care – the shortage, qualifications, workers/caregivers migration. We will talk seriously about how the coming increase of people with dementia will affect the long term care in Europe. And we will present good practices examples from various states.
Finally we will also present the European Ageing Network VISION for 2030.
A „must“ part of the congress are also two social events. One on a ship with great food, jazz music and unforgettable views of great Prague and the other in Old City Church with superb Czech Classical music.

Workshop on the future of long-term care
What is coming our way? What does the future hold for the providers of care and services for the aged? Which trends are currently in evidence?
These are the topics that we wish to discuss with you at the LTC 2030 Workshop. This is an opportunity for you to participate, add your voice to the discussion and actively shape the future of our sector.
The EDE and EAHSA have established a joint working group and made joint preparations for the workshop in Prague. We will present the results of our research and now wish to discuss and supplement this in partnership with you.
